Curiosity Killed the Cat fue una banda de pop británica que logró el éxito en el Reino Unido a fines de la década de 1980, con sencillos exitosos como “Down to Earth”, “Misfit” y “Ordinary Day”, incluidos en su álbum debut ‘Keep Your Distance’ que alcanzó el número 1 en Inglaterra. A principios de la década de 1990, el bajista de la banda se fue y, anunciado como ‘Curiosity’, colaboraron con Simon Cowell grabando “Hang On in There Baby” en el álbum Back to Front.
La banda tocaba música pop conmovedora, jazz y funky, e inicialmente firmó con Mercury Records. Se dieron cuenta por primera vez de la prensa musical del Reino Unido cuando trabajaron con Andy Warhol para el video de su sencillo de 1986 “Misfit”. Esto presentaba a la banda en la ciudad de Nueva York y en un momento presentaba al líder Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot bailando en una calle lateral mientras Andy Warhol hacía referencia a la película promocional de larga duración de Bob Dylan de 1965 para “Subterranean Homesick Blues” al dejar caer pedazos de cartulina blanca a tiempo para la música.
El sencillo inicialmente no tuvo éxito, pero el lanzamiento de su siguiente sencillo, “Down to Earth”, le dio a la banda un Top 3 a principios de 1987. El primer álbum de la banda, ‘Keep Your Distance’, entró en la lista de álbumes del Reino Unido en el número 1 en abril de 1987 y permaneció en el Top Ten durante 13 semanas. Este álbum debutó en el número uno de las listas de venta de Reino Unido. En mayo de ese año, el disco volvió a lo más alto, esta vez dos semanas, para completar el período de 13 en lo más alto. Records Hijo de un pianista de jazz, los padres de Prince se divorciaron cuando contaba siete años de edad. Al irse de casa, su padre dejó allí el piano, que cayó en manos de Prince. Más tarde aprendería a tocar la guitarra eléctrica, hasta llegar a manejar una veintena de instrumentos diferentes. A los diecisiete años consiguió dinero para hacer unas maquetas, y poco después fue descubierto por una multinacional con la que firmó un contrato millonario. En 1984 rodó su primera película Purple rain, y del mismo año es el célebre álbum que lleva el mismo título. Al año siguiente, Prince recibió 5 premios Grammy por este disco y, obtuvo un Óscar por la película. Después de este lanzamiento, el cantante dijo que ya no haría giras ni videos musicales, pero las repercusiones de este disco fueron más allá de eso; todo terminó con la separación entre el músico y su banda The Revolution.
