Red Hot Chili Peppers es una banda de rock estadounidense formada en 1983 en Los Ángeles, California. Sus integrantes son, el vocalista Anthony Kiedis, el guitarrista John Frusciante, el bajista Flea y el baterista Chad Smith. El estilo musical de la banda fusiona el funk tradicional con el rock y el rock alternativo incluyendo elementos de otros géneros como el rap, pop rock, heavy metal, dance, punk, hip hop e indie rock.
Aunque en algunos sitios son considerados los inventores del punk funk, en realidad son los que hicieron esta fusión (inventada por el neoyorquino James Chance) masiva y exitosa comercialmente.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik es el quinto álbum de estudio de la banda, y fue lanzado el 24 de septiembre de 1991. Producido por Rick Rubin, fue la primera grabación de la banda lanzada por Warner Bros. Records.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik vendió más de siete millones de copias solo en los Estados Unidos e introdujo a los Chili Peppers a la popularidad mainstream y la aclamación crítica y produjo varios sencillos de la banda, entre los cuales se incluyen «Give It Away», «Under the Bridge», «Suck My Kiss», «Breaking the Girl» e «If You Have to Ask».
